Privacy Policy — ShelfSense

Overview

ShelfSense is a free iOS app that helps you track grocery prices and identify savings opportunities across stores. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your rights.

Data We Collect

Data stored on your device

The following data is stored locally on your iPhone only, using Apple's SwiftData framework. It never leaves your device except as described below:

• Receipt scan images (processed on-device, not stored)
• Parsed receipt data: store name, store address, purchase date, item names, prices, and quantities
• Budget settings and preferences
• App settings and preferences

Data sent to third-party services

When you scan a receipt using the AI-powered scan feature, the following is sent to our receipt parsing service (Supabase, hosted on AWS):

• OCR text extracted from your receipt image
• Store name hint

We do not send: receipt images, payment card numbers, approval codes, transaction IDs, or any financial account information. Sensitive payment data is stripped from OCR text before it leaves your device.

The OCR text is processed by Anthropic's Claude AI to extract item names, prices, and store information. This data is used solely for receipt parsing and is not stored by Anthropic or used to train AI models.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect your name, email, or any personal identifiers
• We do not require account creation or login
• We do not collect location data
• We do not use advertising or tracking SDKs
• We do not share your data with advertisers
• We do not sell your data to any third party
• We do not collect analytics or usage data

Third-Party Services

ShelfSense uses the following third-party services solely for receipt parsing:

Supabase (supabase.com) — serverless function hosting. Processes receipt OCR text transiently. Subject to Supabase's privacy policy at supabase.com/privacy

Anthropic Claude API (anthropic.com) — AI receipt parsing. Processes OCR text to extract structured receipt data. Subject to Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy

No other third-party services, SDKs, or analytics tools are used in ShelfSense.

Data Retention

All receipt and price data is stored locally on your device only. You can delete all app data at any time by deleting the ShelfSense app from your iPhone. We do not retain any copies of your data.

Children's Privacy

ShelfSense is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.

Your Rights

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control at all times:

• Access: all your data is visible within the app
• Deletion: delete the app to remove all data instantly
• Portability: your data stays on your device and is not held by us

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
